Tomorrow is New Year’s Eve and instead of just picking up a bottle of liquor, I thought it’d be a unique idea to make Sangria to take along to my friend’s house. All said and done, it cost about $25 but $10 of that was for Brandy, which can be used many more times. Picked up some Blackberry Merlot, blackberries, pineapple, orange, and a lime to add to the mix as well. We’ll see how it turns out tomorrow.
If nothing else, at least it’ll look pretty sitting on the table!

Blackberry Sangria
Ingredients
- 1 lime, sliced in rounds
- 1 orange, sliced in rounds
- 1/2 cup fresh blackberries
- 1/2 cup brandy (or spiced rum, your call)
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1 (750 milliliter) bottle blackberry merlot
- 1 cup tonic water
Mix everything in a container except the tonic water. Refrigerate overnight, or for at least 2 hours. Add the tonic water prior to serving so you don’t lose the carbonation. You may adjust sweetness to taste and add pretty much whatever fruit and dry wine you’d like. Put into a glass pitcher for serving. Or a fancy plastic carafe with lid that was $4.99 at Target.

Update: This wasn’t too bad. I probably won’t make it again though, the sweetness gave me a headache.

Mmm… this sounds good. I totally want to make it now. What brand makes Blackberry Merlot?

I forget the name, but it was super cheap. 750ml bottles were $4.99. It wasn’t Arbor Mist, but it was the same price and right next to it.

(But Arbor Mist makes it as well!)
