Handmade Christmas Bags

Posted on Feb 18 , 2011 in Blog

It’s been a minute, so I guess I should say… Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. A lot of things have been changing around my house, I’ll do my best to fill you in with a few new blog posts.

First, let me show you the Christmas bags I made – 3 bags, 2 different designs. (Four bags if you count the first I completely botched and is now hidden inside a closet)

All patterns from Amy Butler’s Style Stitches book that came out a few months ago. The “take flight” bag with the peacock feathers was a lot easier than the round hobo bag – who would’ve thought? The first hobo bag I made I had to keep, it turned out awful! The second try was much better and I think my Grammy liked it.

The two “take flight” bags were made for my mom, and Jamie’s mom. I finished them both in record time – 4 hours each. My mom asked for a bag that she could fit file folders into for work. I’m not sure if she likes it, I stopped by a week or two after Christmas and it was still under the tree! I cheated a little with those bags, the “feathers” are on with FabriTac rather than sewn – so these bags may be missing a few feathers soon… But was in a Christmas rush.

I’d love one of the “take flight” bags, I have yet to make anything for myself. Maybe when I have an entire day to devote to it, and have enough scrap fabric and interfacing. So in other words, never. Maybe someone else will make me one someday.

I’m also excited to say, my dear cousins Jessica & Joe are expecting a baby BOY this summer so I will be sewing some baby things this Spring, maybe a blanket and diaper bag. Stay tuned.
